Water Supply Investigation & Repair
Weybridge
Stoneleigh Park
Project Overview
Clearline Drainage attended Stoneleigh Park in Weybridge following reports of a recurring water leak affecting the supply to the one of the blocks.
Initial excavation exposed two heavily leaking water pipes. These were repaired and the water supply restored, but the investigation showed that the immediate leaks were only part of a wider problem within the existing installation.
The objective became not only to repair the active leaks, but to establish why failures were occurring and whether other sections of the supply were at risk.
Our Approach
The affected area was hand excavated to expose the water supply pipework and allow the system to be inspected properly.
The two active leaks were repaired before the surrounding pipework and ground conditions were examined.
This allowed Clearline to assess both the condition of the existing pipes and the way they had originally been installed.
What We Found
The pipework had been installed directly onto hard material, including rocks and boulders, without suitable bedding sand or protective surround.
This meant the pipes had poor support and were exposed to concentrated pressure as the surrounding ground moved.
Three further water pipes within the same section were identified as requiring replacement, meaning that simply repairing the two existing leaks would not remove the wider risk of further failures.
Outcome
The immediate leaks were repaired and the water supply restored.
More importantly, the investigation identified the root cause of the failures and highlighted three additional pipes requiring replacement before they developed into further leaks.
Clearline recommended replacing the affected pipework in full, removing the unsuitable hard bedding and reinstalling the pipes with the correct bedding and protective surround to provide a more reliable long-term installation.
