Project Overview
Clearline Drainage was engaged by a civil engineer overseeing a proposed residential development at a property in Wareham. The objective was to carry out a comprehensive drainage condition survey to inform the pre-construction phase. The client needed full visibility of the system’s current state, identification of any defects and guidance on elements requiring coordination with the local water authority - Wessex Water - before commencing groundworks.
Our Approach
To support the civil engineering team and project timeline, we delivered a methodical and compliance-ready survey:
Conducted a full CCTV inspection of the combined foul and surface water system
Mapped all accessible pipe runs, including manholes, gullies and SVPs
Assessed pipe material, internal condition, hydraulic flow and structural integrity
Identified key ownership boundaries to distinguish between client and water authority responsibility
Delivered a WRc-compliant drainage report complete with mapped observations and actionable next steps
Outcome
The survey provided the client with a clear understanding of the system's current condition, supporting both design coordination and risk management before construction. Several issues were identified that required attention prior to development, including maintenance actions, investigation of inaccessible assets and coordination with third-party authorities. Our report gave the civil engineer confidence to progress with planning and enabled more accurate programming of remedial works within the overall project timeline.
