New Surface Water Drainage Installation
Horndean Technology College, Waterlooville
Hampshire
Project Overview
Clearline Drainage was appointed by the main contractor to install a new surface-water drainage system at a secondary school in Hampshire as part of wider construction works.
The area alongside the building sits on a significant incline, with surface water travelling down the sloping bank towards the property. A new drainage arrangement was required to intercept and manage this water before connecting it into the existing soakaway.
Our Approach
A 28m run of 150mm perforated French drain was installed along the wall line of the building.
Due to the incline and restricted working conditions, the excavation had to be completed by hand. The perforated drainage was wrapped within heavy-duty membrane and encased in 20mm shingle, with approximately 5 tonnes of stone distributed manually across the site.
Clearline also supplied and installed two 300mm x 600mm Midi-Gully and Silt Trap Sets beneath the new rainwater downpipes to help manage additional surface-water flow from the sloping ground.
The complete system was connected into the existing soakaway.
Outcome
The works provided a new dedicated drainage route along the building line, intercepting surface water and directing it safely into the existing soakaway.
The additional gullies and silt traps provided further capacity beneath the rainwater downpipes while helping to capture debris before it entered the downstream system.
The installation was completed as part of the main contractor’s wider programme, providing the site with a more robust surface-water drainage arrangement around the affected elevation.
