Pre-Construction Rainwater Survey
Horndean Technology College
Hampshire
Project Overview
Clearline Drainage was instructed to undertake a CCTV survey of the existing rainwater drainage system at Horndean Technology College as part of pre-construction investigations.
The objective was to assess the condition and performance of the existing rainwater infrastructure and identify any issues that could affect future works or ongoing site operations.
Our Approach
Using specialist CCTV equipment, our engineers surveyed the accessible rainwater pipework serving the building, inspecting the 75mm drainage connections from the rainwater outlets through to downstream connections.
The survey assessed the condition, connectivity and operational performance of the system, with all findings recorded and mapped within a detailed report.
What We Found
The investigation identified significant silt, stone and debris accumulation throughout the rainwater network.
Key findings included:
Heavy silt deposits throughout all surveyed pipe runs
Restricted flow capacity across the system
One rainwater connection (RW6) found to be fully blocked
Evidence that the existing drainage arrangement was contributing to localised flooding during heavy rainfall events
The level of build-up was significantly reducing the effectiveness of the system and increasing the likelihood of future blockages and surface water issues.
Outcome
The survey provided the client with a clear understanding of the condition of the existing rainwater infrastructure before construction works commenced.
Our findings enabled a targeted maintenance strategy to be developed, including high-pressure water jetting and drainage cleaning works to restore flow capacity. Recommendations were also provided to improve long-term surface water management and reduce the risk of future flooding around the building.
